11fountains - Leeuwarden - De Lovefontein

This so-called ’Love fountain’, designed by Jaume Plensa, consists of two 7 meter high children’s faces. According to the artist, the children have a serene expression on their face and are dreaming. The children’s dream is represented by the mist clouds rising from the surface around the fountain.

The fountain is placed prominently in the middle of the recently redesigned square between the NS train station, the impressive Achmea highrise (designed by Abe Bonnema) and monumental buildings and trees. All in all an impressive and iconic part of Leeuwarden.
